Basic Guitar Chords

Guitar chords are probably the most important pieces that make up a song, because they are the "backbone" on which the melody is built. This page and a few more pages, shows you in a simple graphical way how you can learn n' play some of the basic chords.
So, let's start!

On this page we give you the first 4 types of basic major guitar chords you can learn. They can be played anywhere on the fretboard. Depending on the position, the chord takes it's name. That's why we have the little table below, that table explains that if you play any one of these chords in - let's say position 3 on the fretboard, you will get a G-major chord.
Explanation of symbols:
The numbers in the circles mean what fingers you use to press on the strings. 0=open string
1=index finger
2=middle finger
3=ring finger
4=little finger

The numbers in the black rhombus mean that this note is the root of the chord, it's the chords name.

When you see numbers just below the strings, that means an alternate way to put your fingers on the fretboard. Use the one that is best for you.
Important: Only the strings that have the above marks must be heard when playing the chord. The rest of the strings are not played or dampered by the left hand.
Except when you see the word "barre" under the strings (barre means that one finger simultaneously presses down two or more strings) Then you don't have to worry about that because all the strings have to be pressed down anyway.
The curves above the numbers mean you press 2 or more strings with one finger.
